teamLab in Tokyo: The Museums, and Where Planets Fits

Updated October 27, 2026

Tokyo has two teamLab museums: teamLab Planets in Toyosu and teamLab Borderless at Azabudai Hills. Together they welcomed over 4.2 million visitors in 2025, about 2.51 million at Planets and 1.69 million at Borderless (teamLab, from official ticket data). They are different museums, not branches of one: Planets is the barefoot, walk-through-water one, with a term that ends at the end of 2027; Borderless is a maze of rooms you wander in your shoes, listed as permanent.

How many teamLab museums Tokyo has

Two dedicated museums. teamLab’s own list of its Tokyo venues also includes MoonFlower Sagaya Ginza, Art by teamLab, a restaurant with teamLab artworks (since April 2017), and a public artwork, Universe of Water Particles on the Living Wall, at GINZA SIX (since April 2017). Neither of those is a museum visit. Elsewhere in Japan, teamLab lists teamLab Biovortex Kyoto, open since October 2025.

teamLab Planets in Toyosu

teamLab Planets TOKYO DMM opened on 7 July 2018 at Toyosu 6-1-16, on the Tokyo Bay waterfront, three minutes on foot from Shin-Toyosu Station on the Yurikamome. It is organised by PLANETS Co., Ltd., with DMM.com as founding partner. You leave your shoes in a locker and walk through large works, some in knee-deep water, some with mirrored floors, along a set route, then into a Garden area with living orchids and an outdoor moss garden, and the Athletics Forest play works. It is open 08:00 to 22:00, and adult tickets start at ¥3,800 (about $24). The official term runs to the end of 2027; see is teamLab Planets closing.

teamLab Borderless at Azabudai Hills

teamLab Borderless: MORI Building DIGITAL ART MUSEUM opened at Azabudai Hills on 9 February 2024 and is listed by teamLab as permanent. It is in Garden Plaza B, basement level 1, two minutes on foot from Exit 5 of Kamiyacho Station on the Hibiya Line. teamLab describes it as a world where artworks “move out of rooms”, relate to and intermingle with other works, without boundaries; there is no set route. Hours are 08:30 to 21:00 (to 22:00 on listed dates), and adult tickets start at ¥3,400 (about $22). TIME magazine listed it among the World’s Greatest Places 2024 (teamLab).

Who teamLab are

teamLab is an international art collective founded in 2001. Its members are artists, programmers, engineers, CG animators, mathematicians and architects, and teamLab says it works at “the confluence of art, science, technology, and the natural world”.
