How far in advance should I book teamLab Planets?
Updated October 27, 2026
Quick answer
Book as soon as your Tokyo dates are fixed, and at the latest a few days ahead for a weekend or a Japanese public holiday. teamLab Planets sells no tickets on site, not at a counter and not from a machine (official FAQ, checked 27 October 2026), so a sold-out date means no visit that day.
Booking early costs you little if you buy from the official Ticket Store: its tickets cannot be refunded, but the date and time can be changed up to three times, until two hours before the admission time. That makes an early booking a low-risk hold rather than a gamble. teamLab does not publish how many days ahead each date goes on sale, so this page does not guess at a release window.
When slots go on sale
teamLab Planets does not publish a fixed release window. The Ticket Store simply shows the dates and 30-minute admission times that are on sale, and its own FAQ refers to "the sales period" without giving a number of days. Look at the calendar for your trip on the Ticket Store or on a booking partner as soon as you have dates: if your day is listed, you can buy it. Entry is timed, and the adult Entrance Pass is dynamically priced from ¥3,800 (about $24), so an early booking can also lock in a lower price on a busy day. The QR ticket arrives by email two days before your visit and shows from midnight on the day.
How fast weekend and holiday slots sell out
teamLab publishes no sell-out data, so nobody can honestly promise how fast a given date goes. What is on record is demand: about 2.51 million people visited in 2025, according to teamLab's own ticket data, and the official notes warn that you may still wait 30 to 60 minutes to be admitted at busy times. Japanese public holidays add domestic visitors on top of tourists. In the rest of 2026 that means Culture Day (3 November) and Labour Thanksgiving Day (23 November), plus the New Year period. Treat weekends and those dates as the ones to book first.
Whether you can buy at the door
No. The official FAQ is explicit: "Tickets are not sold on-site." There is no ticket counter and no vending machine at the museum. The GetYourGuide listing adds that tickets cannot be bought for admission on the same day. If you turn up without a ticket, you cannot get in, so buy online before you set off, even on a quiet weekday.
Changing the date or time after booking
Tickets bought from the official Ticket Store can be changed up to three times, no later than two hours before the admission time, using the "Change Admission Date and Time" button in My Tickets. A 10:00 ticket can be changed until 08:00. If the new slot costs more, you pay the new price and the old one is refunded. Tickets from travel agencies, convenience stores or booking partners follow that seller's rules instead: the GetYourGuide entry ticket is non-refundable and its listing does not offer changes. Official tickets cannot be cancelled or refunded.
What to do when your date is sold out
Check the other times of the same day first: the museum is open from 08:00 to 22:00 with last entry at 21:00, and early-morning and late-evening slots are often the last to go. Then check the authorized resellers the Ticket Store names (Lawson Ticket, Seven Ticket and Klook), which hold their own allocation. A guided tour that includes entry is the third route: the operator holds the museum ticket, and the tours compared on our teamLab Planets tickets page cost $108 to $152 with free cancellation up to 24 hours before. The ¥12,000 (about $76) Premium Pass has no fixed admission time and priority entry, if it is on sale for your date. Never buy a resold ticket: teamLab invalidates tickets it finds resold, without refund.
Frequently asked questions
Can I buy teamLab Planets tickets on the day?
Not at the museum, which has no counter or ticket machine. The official Ticket Store may still show slots for the same day; the GetYourGuide entry ticket cannot be bought for the same day.
What happens if I arrive late for my admission time?
The official FAQ says you can still enter the same day during opening hours if you ask staff, with last entry at 21:00. The GetYourGuide listing is stricter: entry only in the first 30 minutes and no refund for late arrival. Aim to be in the queue inside your window.
Is a teamLab Planets ticket cheaper if I book early?
Adult tickets are dynamically priced from ¥3,800 (about $24), so the price can change by date and time. teamLab does not publish how the price moves; the Ticket Store shows the price for each slot before you pay.
Can I give a ticket to someone in my group who arrives separately?
Yes. Official QR tickets can be distributed to the people in your party in advance, so each person can enter on their own phone.
